The video explains how the New Testament canon developed gradually over several centuries through debate and evaluation rather than being fixed all at once.

Early on, most of the current New Testament books were widely accepted, but a smaller group (such as James, Jude, 2 Peter, 2–3 John, and Revelation) was disputed—mainly due to doubts about authorship. Some lists included additional texts (like the Gospel of Thomas) or excluded others (especially Revelation), showing there was no complete agreement at first.

Over time, more leaders and councils came to affirm a set of 27 books, which eventually became the standard New Testament. This process involved ongoing disagreement, especially about who wrote certain texts.

The overall trend was cautious: rather than freely adding books, early Christians were more likely to question and exclude writings unless they met certain criteria, such as connection to apostles, consistency in teaching, and widespread use.
