Today Rev. Munther Isaac,
traveling from his home Bethlehem, West Bank, Israel/Palestine
was invited to celebrate and give today's sermon at
Redeemer-St. John's Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, NY.
This is 6 minutes of his Q and A.
He was asked to give a talk after service, and one of the many questions was, when we are vigiling with our Cease Fire and Stop Killing signs, the most common refrain in response from those who see this as a threat, repeat incessantly "Hamas!" and "October 7th!". Often attempts at further discussion, are met only with the same words. We hope this changes each day. For all of us.
Here is one 6 minute moment in which he answers this, before moving on to other questions.
He said many worthy things, one was he felt more hope coming from the Jews he has met in America, than many of the American Christian Churches.
One of his richest recent experiences that gives him hope was in a Mosque in Pittsburg, which was a gathering of Jews, Christians, Muslims and others.
He spoke of one person on this journey asking him to please remember the Armenian Genocide, and which he responded, Yes, Thank you, that he should, and reminds us to also remember this, as part of what is happening today, as with all inhumanity.
He also responded to a question by asking us to not give into the strong divisions of the day, and not stick to one side or the other, with the "Right wing" or the "Left wing", Democrats or Republicans, but to remember the words and Spirit of Jesus. To love one another.... etc.
He says he's greatly uplifted by the youth here and the black people he's met, how they in particular have shown great leadership and courage for the people of Palestine.
He invited (s) us all, especially now in this darkest time, in the tomb, before the resurrection, to come to the West Bank, to see and witness and join him. Come in peace.
** He has a new book just out, which there wasn't time to talk about, but a most vital, worthy read.....
"Christ in the Rubble" by Munther Isaac.
To be released in two days, April 1st, 2025.
Deepest gratitude
