Public lecture Uganda commemorates Archbishop Janani Luwum

The Rt. Rev. Dr. Ashley Null, the Archbishop of North Africa, has paid tribute to late Janai Luwum, the Archbishop of the Province of the Church Uganda, whose death will be commemorated Monday 16th February 2026 at Mucwini, Kitgum Diocese, as one of the matyters of Uganda and it is an annual event.
Ashley Null was speaking at a public lecture organized by All Saints University, Lango and the diocese of Lango.
Ashley Null says, the Revival Movement of East Africa transformed Archbishop Janani Locum, who was able to withstand God's incredible testing.
Archbishop Null said that the teaching of Luwum, led to transformation of the community, adding that the good news from the revival is that the sin has been forgiven as a result of the work of the Holy Spirit in East Africa and across the world.
Meanwhile, the Rt. Rev. Professor Alfred Olwa, the Bishop of the Diocese of Lango, comprehensively elaborated the life of Archbishop Janani Luwun, whom he said interpreted evangelism, transformation, socio-economic vision, and culture, challenging African Christians through African idioms.
Bishop Olwa alluded to the fact that late Archbishop Luwum reminds the global church that biblical authority is not negotiable, adding the nations have to be economically responsible.
Bishop Olwa further said that, Archbishop Luwum was rooted in the East African Revival and rejected human merits with consistent preaching and pointing to Jesus Christ.
Justice Canon James Munange Ogoola, the retired Principal Judge of the High Court of Uganda, in his response, said that Janani Luwum, stood his ground single handedly to face the state machinery, refusing to compromise his integrity and eventually he was execution by the state.
On other hand, Dr. Olara Otunnu, in his response in the key note address, thanked the leadership of the Province of the Church of Uganda for the completion of Namugongo Uganda martyrs shrine, with inquiry on the commitment of the church to build one at Mucwini in Kitgum, in memory of Bishop Janani Luwum.
Diocese of Lango organized a one - day public lecture on the role of Christian leadership, in shaping national identity and social transformation reflections on the life and ministry of St. Janani Luwum, Saturday 14th February 2026, held at Canon Lawrence School of education, All Saints University, Lango compass, at Boroboro in Lira City.
