Philip Rieff described the giving of the Mosaic Law as representing the “translation of the sacred order into social order.” Against the backdrop of the weakening of social order across the modern world, Craig describes how Christian philosopher J. G. Hamann offered an alternative to the Kantian emphasis on human autonomy and reason, which relegated faith to the private domain. Influenced by God's address at Sinai, Hamann's philosophy makes room for divine action in our world.
