In this episode, Dr. Christopher Wright joins Dru Johnson to explore the global mission and theology behind Langham Partnership’s work—especially its focus on preaching. Founded by John Stott, Langham supports theological education, literature access, and biblical preaching training across the global South. Wright explains how these initiatives respond to the explosive growth of Christianity in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, where pastors often lack books, seminaries, and formal training.
Wright reflects on Stott’s “Langham Logic”: if God wants the Church to grow in maturity, and growth comes through God’s Word, and the Word reaches people primarily through preaching—then we must raise the standards of preaching globally. This vision emphasizes preaching not as Western-style oratory, but as faithful, clear, and relevant proclamation of the Bible—especially in oral cultures where Scripture is “eaten with the ears.”
The episode closes with a call for humility in the West. Wright challenges Western Christians to listen to Majority World voices—people who have suffered, endured, and seen Scripture afresh. Their insights can transfigure our own reading, just as the disciples saw Christ anew at the Transfiguration.
