Interview with author and philosopher Esther Lightcap Meek and key players in the unfolding story of Meek’s Longing to Know (Brazos, 2003), in honor of the book's twentieth anniversary.
This conversation: Mary and Troy, 2011 Geneva grads, were stellar students in the same class of Christian Understanding of Life. Mary TA’d for me; she also helped prepare the Index for my book, Loving to Know. Troy is a church planter and pastor in Pittsburgh, PA. Hear Mary reflect on the strategic value of LTK as she has combatted two things closely connected to a defective epistemology: OCD, and excessive commitment to certainty in church life. Troy, who always wanted to be a pastor, recalls gobbling up philosophy just for that reason, and reflects on the value of LTK’s approach in the not-yet-knowing of church planting.
Longing to Know: The Philosophy of Knowledge for Ordinary People (Brazos, 2003) is a transformative book about how we go about knowing in every area of our lives. It's especially for people considering Christianity who have issues around faith and reason, certainty and doubt. The book's playful "driving analogy" is that "Knowing God is like knowing your auto mechanic." Check out Meek's work at www.estherlightcapmeek.com
