On March 21, 2018, Louisville Seminary's President Rev. Dr. Michael Jinkins travelled to NYC to award Professor James Cone with the Grawemeyer Award for Religion, celebrating his 2011 book, “The Cross and the Lynching Tree”.

Of Dr. Cone, President Jinkins remarked, “We don’t give lifetime achievement awards, but we hope that this does serve as a recognition of your lifetime of work, and study, and scholarship.”
