Abstract: On October 8, thirteen people from the Wolverine Watchman militia were arrested for conspiring to arrest the Michigan governor and put her on “trial” for treason. While the conspiracy was bizarre and brazen, it was not surprising. Over the last forty years, private militias have moved from the fringe to the mainstream in American politics. Indeed, most militia members describe themselves as everyday patriots who love God, guns, and country. Drawing on his new book, This Land Is My Land: Rebellion in the West, Jamie will explain how we got to this point and what it means for the 2020 election.
