Dr. Greg Thompson, a PCA teaching elder, says that Christians should be stopping people's tears, resisting death, and "constructing a new order," while preaching on Revelation 21:1-5.

"Every aspect of this world is destined for healing. That is an incredible consolation. But remember, that is not only a consolation, that is a calling for the church. Not simply to anticipate the healing and long for it, but to work for it and embody it now. Now how do we do that? In this passage, the voice is very explicit. First through the stopping of tears. Did you notice that? 'I will wipe away all the tears.' That means that I'm going to put a stop to everything that brings tears of sadness into your life. And that is the calling. We're gonna look for every place where there are tears, and we're gonna understand why, and we're gonna stop 'em. That is part of the work, saying 'we see the tears, and we are working to stop them.' It also means resisting death. Going to every place where there is death and saying 'no more.' Everything that is causing death, we are laboring against it as God's people because we believe in the resurrection. And it also means building newness. Building a new world. We're not just stopping tears. We're not just resisting death. We're actually constructing something. Constructing a new order. There's so much that needs to be renovated. So much that needs to be torn down and remade, and we are laboring for that in every area of our lives. Now, do you see this? That the vision of redemption and consummation given in Revelation, it's not just a consolation for us. It is a calling, because this is what God does and it's what he calls us to do."
