It's hard to be brave to step into our calling sometimes, especially if there's fear that God won't show up for us. When we have heroes in real life or from our ancient narratives alike, we can be assured that we have a heritage of faith, tenacity, and even wins of epic proportions. Today we are joined by exemplary scholar, Dr. Sandra Richter, PhD, Harvard-trained biblical scholar and The Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont College to walk us through the captivating story of Deborah of the Old Testament in her new Bible study series by the same name. Join us for an exhilarating conversation about a woman and a people group who put everything into their dreams, even though they had only the smallest chance of victory as you join us and step more confidently into your dreams as well. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont College. Richter earned her PhD from Harvard University's Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations Department and her MA in Theological Studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She has taught at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY, Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, MS and Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Due to her passion for the "real space and time" of the biblical text, she has spent many of those years directing an Israel Studies program focused on historical geography and field archaeology. Richter is best known in the Academy for her work on the Book of Deuteronomy and the Deuteronomistic History. In the Church, she is best known for her work, "The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament" (IVP 2008) and a number of DVD curriculums stemming from the project with Seedbed and HarperCollins. Her book "Stewards of Eden: What the Scripture has to Say about Environmentalism and Why It Matters" (IVP, 2020), and related curriculum with SeminaryNow, offer an informed and accessible discussion of environmental theology. Look for her new curriculum on Deborah and the book of Judges with HarperCollins, and a commentary on Deuteronomy with Eerdmans!
