The incoming Archbishop of Canterbury. Dame Sarah Mullally should abandon “high profile and legally dubious vanity projects.” That’s according to a group of Conservative MPs and members of the House of Lords – they’ve written to her calling on her to scrap the plans to spend £100 million over the Church of England’s historic links to slavery. The authors of that letter said the money would be better spent on “strengthening parishes”. A spokesperson for the Church Commissioners say that the money they’ve earmarked to spend on this issue is consistent with the Church of England’s Fourth Mark of Mission which is to “seek to transform unjust structures of society”.
