Dr. Shreiner opens our conference with the first of two sessions. Here he addresses OUR NEED of justification. He then unpacks the multi-faceted RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD, and how we are COUNTED righteous by FAITH. (We apologize, but there is no sound for the first 5:14; however, Dr. Schreiner's presentation is not affected). What was missed is a reading from Alister McGrath's work on the history of JUSTIFICATION, in which he states: "There never was, and there never can be, any true Christian church without the doctrine of justification...It is this truth which called the church into being, and it is this truth which must be expressed in her life and doctrine. In the Christian doctrine of justification, we are concerned with the turning of the godless man against his godlessness, with his transformation from man WITHOUT God to man WITH God and BEFORE God...Without the recognition of the NECESSITY, the POSSIBILITY and the ACTUALITY of such a transition, there can be no community of faith - and it is in this sense that the doctrine of justification is the doctrine on which the church stands or falls."
