The season of Lent invites us to learn to walk the way of the cross in reflecting on the depths of human sin even as we turn to our Holy God in praise. In Exodus, we hear God, who brought the people of Israel out of slavery, giving the Ten Commandments, or Ten Words, to God's covenant people. These words guide God's people into a wholehearted love of God and neighbor: that is, they guide us into God's best ways of being human. In reflecting on these ways, we consider our individual and corporate failings that inhibit our relationship with God and damage our life in community. In humility, we repent and turn to Christ, so we may walk intimately with God.
