Professor Klyne Snodgrass taught for over forty years at North Park Theological Seminary and is a leading authority on the parables of Jesus. In this conversation, we reflect on his life in scholarship and explore the themes of his book "You Need a Better Gospel."
We discuss what the gospel actually is—and what it is not. Prof. Snodgrass explains why participation with Christ stands at the center of Christian faith, why there is no such thing as an isolated individual in the New Testament vision, and why reducing salvation to “asking Jesus into your heart” misses something essential. We talk about the parables of Jesus and what many Christians get wrong about them, the authorship and theology of Ephesians, and the formative influence of Richard Longenecker on his life and work.
Along the way, Prof. Snodgrass speaks candidly about his love for the Church, the importance of theological humility, and the challenge of speaking honestly about sin and judgment without resorting to manipulation.
