John Keown is the Rose F. Kennedy Professor of Christian Ethics at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Georgetown University. He graduated in law from Cambridge and earned a doctorate from Oxford, where he was later awarded a Doctor of Civil Law. He has taught medical and criminal law at the University of Leicester and held significant academic positions at Cambridge, including a Fellowship at Queens’ College. Dr. Keown specializes in the law and ethics of medicine, particularly issues at the beginning and end of life. His influential book Euthanasia, Ethics and Public Policy: An Argument Against Legalisation was revised and republished in 2018. His research has been cited by major legal bodies, including the U.S. Supreme Court and the House of Lords, and he has testified as an expert witness in significant cases on euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide.
Stephanie Barclay is a Professor of Law at Georgetown Law School and Faculty Co-Director of the Georgetown Center for the Constitution. Her research focuses on protecting minority rights, particularly at the intersection of free speech and religious exercise and has been published in top law journals such as the Harvard Law Review and the Chicago Law Review. Before joining Georgetown, she was twice voted Professor of the Year and has litigated constitutional cases, including before the U.S. Supreme Court. Barclay clerked for Judge N. Randy Smith on the Ninth Circuit and Justice Neil M. Gorsuch of the U.S. Supreme Court. She is also affiliated with Stanford Law School, Pepperdine University, and the University of British Columbia. Barclay graduated summa cum laude from BYU Law School and is completing a Ph.D. in Law at Oxford University as a Clarendon Scholar.
