You Tube Theology

This is Edward Fudge,author of "The Fire That Consumes" on a radio program(that I've lost the name for :(. I thought it might be beneficial to anyone with the traditionalist view of hell to hear this.He makes some important points.Just to clear things up,the soul IS NOT an entity that can be separate of us and that is unable to be destroyed.Remember Adam BECAME a living soul,as opposed to a living flesh with a soul that will survive the flesh when it turns to ashes.What it is is our ENTIRE BEING,including our body and our breath and our animation,OR our life.That's why sometimes it is included in scriptural texts along WITH the body ..because it is the life IN our body,or our entire being.In Matthew 10:28 when it says BOTH body AND soul will be DESTROYED in gehenna(which did not preserve,but rather consumed corpses that were thrown in it like refuse and garbage,it being a literal giant garbage dump in Jerusalem where things were burned up),all it means is that not only will our bodies be annihilated,but we will never be able to LIVE again.In the first death,there is that hope to live again (even though our bodies die) when one is resurrected..But not in gehenna,the second death,the lake of fire.That is where the wicked will be devoured and eternally destroyed(just like the burial abodes and death that are both thrown there as well),eliminating the possibility of any further existence or resurrection...It really is such a disgrace that Hellenistic philosophies have overtaken the simple statements of scripture as the majority of Christians today's "truth".Just to reiterate,the word hell isn't in the bible.The hell Jesus preached was gehenna,a fire that comsumed,as opposed to preserving.It amazes me when I sit and read scripture and its pure language throughout that people cannot see that sinners will not live forever,but rather perish.(John 3:16)There is positively no reason to take ashes,destroyed,perish,consumed,annihilated,killed,cut off,death, etc. figuratively,and eternal fire that the bible says means ASHES literally.The fire will consume and the results (no hope to live again) is what is eternal.Just like eternal redemption was a ONE TIME redemption with eternal consequences.The punishment for sin is death.And THAT is eternal.The unquenchable fire CONSUMES and that is why it is said to be unquenchable.(Ez. 20:47,Amos 5:6)..Fires that were quenched didn't always finish the job of utterly destroying.
