Dr. Gilbert Meilaender is the Professor of Theology at Valparaiso University where he teaches courses on Christian Tradition, Christian Theology and the Moral Life, Topics in Religious Ethics, and Bioethics. Meilaender's published work generally falls into the area of religious ethics but he also has a special interest in bioethics. He is a Fellow of the Hastings Center and has been a member of the President's Council on Bioethics since its inception in January, 2002. Meilaender is the author of NEITHER BEAST NOR GOD: The Dignity of the Human Person (Encounter Books, 2009); The Way That Leads There: Augustinian Reflections on the Christian Life (Eerdmans, 2006); and The Freedom of a Christian: Grace, Vocations, and the Meaning of Our Humanity (Brazos Press, 2006). Together with William Weprehoswski, Meilaender edited The Oxford Handbooks of Theological Ethics, (Oxford, 2005). Meilaender has served on the Editorial Board and as Associate Editor of both the Journal of Religious Ethics, the Associate Editor for Religious Studies Review, on the Editoral Board of the Annual of the Society of Christian Ethics, and on the Editorial Advisory Board of First Things. Meilaender has a B.A. from Concordia Senior College, M.Div. from Concordia Seminary (St. Louis), and a Ph.D. from Princeton University.
