Martin Luther (1483-1546) is the most famous of the sixteenth-century reformers who began his attach on the practices of the Catholic Church five centuries ago in 1517. Here Dr Simeon Zahl looks at what he considers the key theological ideas of Luther, why he came to them, and why they are important. Zahl argues that ‘justification by faith alone’ is the big idea we need to come to grips with if we are to understand Luther and the significance of his theology.
