The common misunderstanding about Jesus and the Bible is that many people think of Him and the gospel in a me-centred way, where one's personal goodness or knowledge of correct beliefs determines their afterlife destination—Heaven or Hell—as if these are distant, disembodied places. However, this view is incorrect and oversimplified. The Bible, especially in Mark 1, presents the gospel as the "good news" of Jesus, the Messiah and Son of God, announcing that the Kingdom of God has come near. This Kingdom is not a future place humans go to after death but God's reign and presence breaking into the world now through Jesus, who embodies God's presence among people as the true temple. The Bible's story is about Heaven and Earth, once united in the Garden of Eden, becoming separated through human sin and autonomy, creating a reality of hell on Earth characterised by evil and broken relationships. Jesus' mission is to confront and heal this brokenness by absorbing sin through his life, death, and resurrection, thus restoring God's creation and offering a new life free from the "hell" humans have unleashed. Hell is not part of God's original creation but a consequence of human rejection of God’s loving rule. The ultimate biblical vision is the reunion of Heaven and Earth in a renewed creation where evil is banished outside God's new Garden City, and those who reject God's healing remain apart. Therefore, the true gospel is about God's active presence to heal, restore, and bring His kingdom to earth, inviting people to repent and believe in this transformative good news, rather than a transactional judgment based solely on human merit or belief.
