Our gospel reading relates a difficult and frustrating conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee. Nicodemus saw the signs Jesus performed and was drawn to talk further with him. After reading about this conversation, it might appear that Jesus pushed Nicodemus away. It seems, however, that Nicodemus took his initial conversation with Jesus as an invitation, maybe even a provocation, to learn more, to follow and to see what Jesus was really about. For us, Lent contains a similar invitation for us to journey with Jesus without precondition. Even if, like Nicodemus, we begin with more questions than answers, Jesus still wants us to follow. About Our Preacher Our preacher today is Stephen Fowl, PhD. When he is not preaching, Steve sings in the choir and recently concluded three years on the Cathedral Chapter as Senior Warden. He is a Professor of Theology and dean of the college of arts and sciences at Loyola University. In addition to preaching and teaching at various churches around the country, Steve also serves on the Theology Committee of the House of Bishops.
