Join us for this special episode of the History Valley Podcast as we welcome Dr. Loren T. Stuckenbruck, Professor of New Testament and Second Temple Judaism at LMU Munich.

Co-hosted by Stephen Nelson (Cross Bible), this discussion explores the historical development of Aramaic, its relationship to Hebrew and Greek, and its profound influence on early Christianity and the New Testament.

About Dr. Stuckenbruck:

Loren T. Stuckenbruck is one of the world’s foremost scholars of early Christianity and Second Temple Judaism. He holds a B.A. from Milligan University and both an M.Div. and Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Dr. Stuckenbruck previously taught at the University of Kiel (1992–1994) and later at Durham University (1994–2009), where he held the prestigious B. F. Westcott Chair in Biblical Studies. He then served as Richard Dearborn Professor of New Testament Studies at Princeton Theological Seminary (2009–2012) before assuming his current post as Professor of New Testament with specialization in Second Temple Judaism at LMU Munich.

His research has significantly shaped contemporary understanding of early Jewish and Christian apocalyptic literature, including the Dead Sea Scrolls, 1 Enoch, and the Book of Revelation.

In this conversation, Dr. Stuckenbruck offers rare insights into how Aramaic shaped Jewish thought during the Second Temple period — from apocalyptic traditions and linguistic shifts to the language of Jesus and the transmission of early Christian texts.
