YouTube description

Dr. Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury and celebrated theologian, joined us to discuss his career as Head of the Church of England, and his thoughts on religion and morality in the 21st century, followed by a live audience Q&A. Williams began his career as an academic at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, before being appointed Bishop of Monmouth and then Bishop of Wales. He became regarded as a figure who made the teachings of Christianity accessible to all, eventually being appointed as the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury in 2002, a position he held until his retirement in 2012. Throughout his career, Williams has been outspoken on issues such as homosexuality in the church, the ordination of women, climate change, the market state, and Sharia law. Now a crossbencher in the House of Lords, Williams continues to be a respected authority on social and moral issues. The event was streamed live from our Facebook page on 3rd August 2020. The University of Sussex Politics Society is a student run, event organising group and forum for discussion for students and staff of Sussex University. We welcome people from all parties and persuasions: from Labour and The Conservatives to UKIP and the Monster Raving Loony Party. Want to get involved and view more of our live events?
