On January 22, 2024, the Micah Centre at The King's University hosted Dr. Sylvia Keesmaat for an evening of personal and theological reflection on creational destruction, divine and human grief, and the possibility of hope in the face of the climate crisis. Dr. Keesmaat is a biblical scholar, teacher, and farmer whose recent books include Romans Disarmed: Resisting Empire, Demanding Justice (Brazos, 2019) and Colossians Remixed: Subverting the Empire (IVP, 2004), both co-authored with Brian J. Walsh. Dr. Keesmaat's presentation was followed by a panel of thoughtful and creative responses hosted by Dr. John Hiemstra, recently retired professor of political science at King's. Our panel include local artist and activist Cline Chuang, King's ecological economist Dr. Gerda Kits, and local Anglican pastor Rev. Jonathan Crane. Many thanks to the Degroot Memorial Lecture Fund, whose generous support made the evening possible. Our apologies for technical difficulties which resulted in sound and video quality issues for the first several minutes of the video.
