In the Spring of 2024, Professor Darrell Bock of Dallas Theological Seminary joined us to defend Israel’s military campaign against Hamas in the aftermath of October 7, 2023. At the time, he was a strong proponent of Israel’s right—and need—to defeat Hamas as well as its right to exist in peace with her neighbors through recognition of her rights as a nation to which this battle was tied. Nineteen months later, Dr. Bock says the two goals are more in conflict and complicated than is often acknowledged. The current pursuit of this has resulted in significant damage to the region. In this follow-up conversation, we will consider what this tension means and how its calibration affects the region. What does it mean to support Israel? What does it mean for Hamas as an organization and for the Palestinians caught in the nexus of the violence? What does this shift say about the role of Christian theology, justice, and peacemaking in the midst of devastating conflict? Join us for a thoughtful and honest dialogue as we discuss what it means to be faithful to Jesus in the face of ongoing war, suffering, and the call to seek peace for all.
