N.T. Wright expresses admiration for the concise and effective way the project, especially Michael Heiser's work, captures complex biblical themes about spiritual powers and Jesus' victory over themsomething that would take much longer to explain in a lecture. He highlights how Jesus' words in John 12 resonate deeply with this, declaring the coming judgment of the world and the casting out of its ruler through His death and resurrection, which empowers the disciples to witness globally. This cosmic defeat of principalities and powers is central to the mission of the church, reflected throughout Scripture in passages like Matthew 28, Acts, Ephesians, Colossians, and 1 Corinthians 15. Wright emphasises that this perspective, while fully biblical, is strikingly unfamiliar and often neglected in the Christian circles in which he was raised and nurtured. He acknowledges the biblical reality of spiritual beingssome rebellious and opposed to God, others reconciled through Christ and called to serve God's purposesand cautions that although non-canonical texts like Enoch provide intriguing background, the New Testament places all creation and powers under Christ's sovereignty. Wright stresses that believers have direct access to God through Jesus, bypassing intermediaries, and calls for humility in grappling with these spiritual dimensions, which modern Christian thought has frequently overlooked or misunderstood. Finally, he notes that early Christians possessed a heightened awareness of these realities, demonstrated by their engagement with works like the Shepherd of Hermas, and affirms that revisiting these themes enriches contemporary faith and mission. #ntwright #endorsement #michaelheiser #jesus #gospel #saviour
