A diverse panel of prominent Catholic editors and publishers will explore this task at a time of political and religious polarization. How do Pope Francis' leadership and Catholic Social Thought unite and divide Catholics on public policy? How deep is ecclesial and ideological polarization and how can it be overcome? What are roles of the Pope, bishops, lay leaders and Catholic media in applying Catholic Social Thought to issues of human life and dignity, economics and family life, war and peace? What is "faithful citizenship" today? This timely Dialogue will be a structured conversation among leaders of major Catholic publications with differing perspectives: Fr. Matt Malone, S.J., editor-in-chief of America Paul Baumann, editor of Commonweal R.R. Reno, editor of First Things Caitlin Hendel, president and CEO of National Catholic Reporter Greg Erlandson, president and publisher of Our Sunday Visitor John Carr, director of the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown, will moderate the Dialogue. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick will open the session.
