2017 Sexuality, Integrity and the University national conference. Day 1: October 27, 2017. Talk Summary: University life and discussion have changed over the past ten years, giving priority to "safe spaces" over and above truth-seeking intellectual discourse. In a post-Obergefell culture where disagreement with mainstream ideology is stifled we find ourselves asking the following questions as we strive to find a way forward: What are the unique challenges and opportunities we face in advancing the truth about marriage, family, and sexuality? How can students help promote "truth seeking" and "freedom of thought and expression"? Bio: Robert P. George, Ph.D., holds Princeton's McCormick Chair in Jurisprudence and is the founding director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions. He is Chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and has served on the President's Council on Bioethics and as a presidential appointee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. He has also held the U.S. seat on UNESCO's World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology. He was a Judicial Fellow at the Supreme Court of the United States, where he received the Justice Tom C. Clark Award. A graduate of Swarthmore College, he holds degrees in law and theology from Harvard and a doctorate in philosophy of law from Oxford University, in addition to sixteen honorary degrees. He is a recipient of the U.S. Presidential Citizens Medal and the Honorific Medal for the Defense of Human Rights of the Republic of Poland, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. His books include Making Men Moral: Civil Liberties and Public Morality (1993), In Defense of Natural Law (1999), The Clash of Orthodoxies (2002), and Conscience and Its Enemies (2013).
