In this dense and fascinating conversation, Julian interviews Brian Brock about his wonderful 2021 book, Wondrously Wounded: Theology, Disability and the Body of Christ. The conversation opens with a discussion of Brian's backround and theological outlook, his disenchantment with modern medical ethics and his work on technology and disability. The conversation then turns to Wondrously Wounded. Brian talks about doing theology amidst the messiness of life, the awareness of God's wondrous works in a disenchanted age, the theological meaning of 'health' and why his severely disabled son Adam is the healthiest person he knows. Brian also offers some critiques of modern medical institutions and shows how the discourses of standardization, risk management and efficiency impact the lives of the disabled. In the final part of the conversation, Julian and Brock discuss COVID, theology and sexuality, and how we can be at home in the world.
