YouTube description

In this episode, Dru Johnson and Hakeem Bradley dive into the relationship between Jesus and the Old Testament, exploring how modern Christians often struggle with reading the Hebrew Scriptures. Hakeem shares his journey from first encountering the Gospels and quickly realizing that to understand Jesus fully, he needed to grasp the context of the Old Testament. But once he started reading, he found himself navigating strange stories, unexpected themes, and difficult passages that didn’t immediately fit into a neat theological framework.

Dru and Hakeem discuss the common pressure in Christian circles to find Jesus in every passage of the Old Testament—what Hakeem calls “the Jesus juke.” They argue for reading the Old Testament on its own terms before jumping to Christological interpretations, acknowledging that Jesus himself had to grow in wisdom through these Scriptures. They also explore some of the Bible’s most difficult narratives, like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and Lot’s disturbing family history, asking whether forcing a Christ-centered reading onto every passage actually distorts the text.
