Part of a lecture on Paul's Letter to the Romans given by Dr. Robert A. J. Gagnon, associate professor of New Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Here Dr. Gagnon discusses the meaning of God's wrath in Romans 1:18-27 and the relationship of that wrath to God handing over people to the enslavement of sexual desires to do what God expressly forbids, including homosexual practice. Paul does not say that God creates these desires in those who turn from him to serve their own idols but rather that God turns such persons over to the controlling influence of their desires, moving from impulse to actions that dishonor or degrade the image of God stamped on that person.
