In this conversation, Dr. Anthony Bradley joins Dru Johnson to explore the church’s long-standing failure to spiritually form boys—and how we’ve misunderstood “biblical masculinity.” Bradley argues that the Bible never defines masculinity in contrast to femininity, but to immaturity. True biblical manhood isn’t about toughness, sports, or emotional suppression—it’s about self-control, responsibility, and maturity, the same expectations God places on all people.
Bradley draws from both biblical theology and decades of mentoring experience to show how Christian culture has outsourced discipleship to youth ministries and cultural models, rather than grounding it in the home. He traces this trend back to the post-Industrial Revolution era, when churches scrambled to recover boys from disengagement by adopting cultural solutions like scouting and youth groups. The result? A persistent 40–50% dropout rate from church among young adults.
Instead, Bradley calls churches to embrace Malachi 4:6 and Deuteronomy 6: restore intergenerational discipleship by equipping parents—especially fathers—for everyday spiritual conversations. Even for kids from broken homes, surrogate families can offer embodied hope.
This is more than a critique of youth ministry—it’s a roadmap to generational faithfulness built on presence, conversation, and covenantal community.
