Icons of Desire: Meditations on Genesis 1–3 and the Journey of Christian Maturity
Teaching Session 1 with Tim Mackie from BibleProject, hosted by WTC Theology (2024).
In this opening session, Tim introduces the central question of the Eden story in Genesis:
Why would God place the tree of the knowledge of good and bad in the garden if humans are called to rule the world as God’s image?
This lecture explores:
- The meaning of the tree of knowing good and bad in Genesis 1–3
- How the Bible frames human desire and what we call “good” (tov)
- Why the Garden of Eden story shapes the biblical vision of maturity
- The theme of desire across the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, and early Christian thought
- What integrity and wisdom look like in the biblical story
Across this series, Tim traces how the human longing for what is good becomes a training ground for wisdom, character, and faithful partnership with God. Sessions 2 and 3 coming soon
This teaching day brought together students, church leaders, and Bible readers to explore the biblical story in depth and rediscover the richness of Scripture.
