‘Pandemic Vaccination Safety, Efficacy & Scientific Literacy’ (Intro – Professor David Albert Jones)

On Saturday 13 May 2023, the Anscombe Bioethics Centre hosted an event at St Mary’s College, Oscott on ‘Pandemic Vaccination: Safety, Efficacy, and Scientific Literacy’. The Centre brought together a medical educator, an immunologist and an economist to explore the science behind vaccines and way that vaccine policy was, or was not, scientifically informed.

The event was to address the concerns that people raise about the efficacy and safety of vaccines, and about COVID-19 vaccines in particular. It was aimed specifically at assisting clergy and future clergy develop their scientific and ethical literacy regarding vaccinations, to help them navigate polarised and competing claims, and therefore best support those who are in their pastoral care.
