Alister McGrath is Oxford scholar, former atheist, and one of Lewis’s most authoritative biographers, explains why Lewis ultimately judged atheism to be “too thin” to explain morality, longing, beauty, and truth. He discusses Lewis’s friendships (Tolkien, Dyson), his work as a tutor at Oxford, and the gradual intellectual crisis that pushed him toward belief.
