Today we are observing Lent 2A.

The promise God made to Abraham — land, descendants, blessing — has been used for centuries to justify violence and dispossession. Sylvia Keesmaat reads it in the full arc of the biblical story and finds something different: a calling to be a blessing for all the families of the earth, conditional on actually living that way. A Lenten reckoning with how we hold a text that has so often become a weapon.
