Brothers, what is the greatest need of the shepherds of Christ's church today?
Biblical orthodoxy, scriptural knowledge, the ability to teach?

Well, of course, those are all essential.

The Word of God is the manner on which the people of God live.
And yet you can have all those things and have a catastrophic problem. For there is something fundamental necessary for all shepherds, something you can lack when people applaud you for your mastery of Scripture and your ability in the pulpit, and you can lack this.

It is a quality.
It is a disposition picked out for us in John's gospel.
It is a yearning, a love for the glory of Christ.
