On Wednesday 5 October 2016, Professor of Biblical Worldview and Exegesis Richard Middleton gave a St Mark's lecture at the Chapel at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture titled 'The Importance of Lament in the Life of Faith'. The lecture explored the necessity of earnest complaint and supplication to God for redress during dark periods of personal crises and suffering. Prof Middleton illustrates that lament is a biblical response that is regularly overlooked in Christianity today, and that lament is often the turning point after which hope, change, and a renewal of faith can emerge. He touched on the writings of C.S. Lewis as well as the Psalms, in particular Psalm 39. Professor Middleton currently teaches at Northeastern Seminary on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College at Rochester in New York state.
