Why did C. S. Lewis matter so much in Eastern Europe?

In this episode of Practical Wisdom, I sit down with Oxford Professor Alister McGrath @alistermcgrathchristianthe1158 to discuss the surprising legacy of C. S. Lewis, not only as a Christian apologist and literary critic, but as a theologian whose work travelled far beyond Britain and took on a distinct life in Eastern Europe.

We discuss Lewis on science and faith, miracles, reason, imagination, and the modern intellectual world, as well as the way his writings were received behind and beyond the Iron Curtain. McGrath reflects on why Lewis still speaks so powerfully to readers living under ideological pressure, how his work was read in Romania and Eastern Europe more broadly, and why his work matters for Christians, scholars, and sceptics today.
