Paul likely witnessed the crucifixion.

The idea that Paul was completely unaware of Jesus until his conversion on the road to Damascus ignores the geographic and social realities of the time.

Given that both men were active in the same religious circles and that the Jewish leadership was deeply involved in the events leading to the crucifixion, it is highly probable that Paul was among the crowds hearing Jesus preach.

This shifts our understanding of Paul from someone who simply heard a story to someone who likely witnessed the very movement he initially tried to destroy.
