One of the questions out there is why are there 17 verses missing from the NIV, and were they left out for theological reasons? The answer is that while the verses references are not in the text, these verses are in the footnotes. I should have been more precise at one thing I say in the video. The first full English Bible to have chapters and verses is the Geneva Bible (1557). However, the first time we see chapters is in the Latin Vulgate by Stephen Langton (d. 1228). Verses first appear in Robert Stephen’s Greek Latin diglot of the New Testament (1551), and the first full Bible to have verses is Beza’s Latin Bible (1555).
