And so we should long that our eyes be opened to see afresh the glory of Christ, the beauty of the Lord, that we might be drawn afresh to want him. And then prayer is simply the articulation of my heart's response.
I don't naturally breathe out prayer; it's only when I find myself freshly captivated by the Lord, then prayer comes. Prayer is awoken because faith is awoken by a fresh sight of him.
And so we breathe in scripture, we see his beauty, we breathe it in, and then we breathe out prayer. Breathe in, breathe out—that's the shape of the Christian life. Prayer is the breath of the heavenly life. Where there is life, there will be prayer. Where there is much life, there will be much prayer, and pleasure in prayer, because pleasure in him.
