In September 2019, Honorary Fellow and former Master of Magdalene, Dr Rowan Williams, delivered the third PM Glynn Lecture on Religion, Law and Public Life on "Overcoming Political Tribalism". This lecture has been published together with twelve responses, and offers a number of perspectives on the central claim that moving beyond political tribalism requires the building of a culture in which perspectives can interact and interrogate one another and themselves. In this virtual event held jointly with the PM Glynn Institute at the Australian Catholic University, and chaired by Dr Catherine Renshaw, Senior Fellow at the Glynn Institute and Professor of Law at Western Sydney University, Dr Williams is joined by two of Australia's foremost public intellectuals: Noel Pearson, Founder of Cape York Institute and prominent Aboriginal activist; and Dr Simon Longstaff (1986), Executive Director of the Ethics Centre and Magdalene College alumnus, to discuss how the themes in this book might help us overcome tribalism in contemporary politics.
